Finding my Ikigai
I have had 3 careers and while some may think ‘she does not know what she wants to do in life’, exploring these paths has been the best thing that has happened to me. Honest confession requires me to also share that the explorations were not planned right from the start. When I introduce myself as an ex-vice president (Consumer Insights) of an MNC, an ex-entrepreneur and a current coach and psychotherapist, it seems as if my life was a well-planned script that led me to my Ikigai
It was not so!
After finishing my post-graduation in communications and landing a job in a market research firm, I thought, “This is it. I am all set now. All I need to do is work hard and be a conscientious employee and all else will take care of itself”.

Life had other plans
I did grow very fast to become the vice-president of a multinational company. But with it also came an alienation from the work that I loved doing (consumer insights). I was no longer playing with numbers and figuring out how the human mind decoded products and advertisements. I was also faced with personal challenges as I navigated a 2 hour commute each day while my toddler waited at home for me (work from home has not been invented then!).
Guilt-ridden, frustrated with the inflexible system and despondent about the work, I quit!
The threat of middle-age is what jolted me into action towards finding my ‘thing’. A lot of research in the area about how to become a psychotherapist led me to blocked alleys and came to naught. The Google Deity brought me coaching when I did not even know it existed. And then started a journey so lovely that it did not matter where the destination was.
